See How Much Better This Show Is Without LAX?

"STILL THINK YOU'RE DEAD?" ::Splash:: "STILL THINK YOU'RE DEAD?" Pretty great seeing Jacob have a personality other than wise divinity-like guy. Also, when Richard asks for his wife back and for Jacob to absolve him of his sins, he replies "I can't do that." Contrast that to Esau who tells anyone he thinks could be valuable to him whatever they want to hear, no matter the accuracy (i.e. The others have your baby.) and I think I am firmly on Jacob's side of this struggle. At least he seems to be honest.

Also in this episode some confirmation that Jacob's purpose on the Island is to keep Esau there. So, in the wine metaphor, if Esau is the wine and the Island is the cork, is Jacob the bottle? Which would make the last scene even more meaningful when Esau smashes the bottle. I don't know, I literally just finished the episode so, none of this may make sense.

Why can Hurley talk to dead people?

If they let Esau leave the Island, they all go to Hell. So, the Island is... I don't know. None of that really makes sense to me.

I do have one big issue with this episode. They changed flashes mid-season. Don't get me wrong, I was thrilled to get away from LAX time, but, I don't know, are they going to go right back to LAX time next week? And if not, well, they can't just abandon it can they? Next week's episode is called "The Package," I can't find anything about who it's going to be centered on.

That said, I loved this episode. This is the first episode of the season that felt like it was an episode in the final season of Lost. We got more back story on Jacob and Esau, which we've been waiting for since last season's finale, a few minor questions were answered (i.e. how old is Richard, why was the statue broken, why did Esau want Jacob dead?). I feel like this should have been the season premier almost. Can you imagine if this was the first episode of the season how unbelievable psyched we would have been?

Sorry again for taking so long with the post, I had to miss seeing it live to be at a dress rehearsal for the play. That being said, I was wearing eye liner... so I was there in spirit with Ricardo.

P.S. Arrow, did you see that Xavier v. K State game last night? Yeesh.

That directly correlates to when Jacob was talking to Ricardo, and explained how Hell is synonymous with hate, malevolence, etc. What Jacob was telling him was that if Esau gets off the island, then the world itself spirals into hate, malevolence...Hell on Earth.

That's what I got from it, at least. And I was at least a little bit happy to hear that, cause I've had a "The island is Pandora's Box and the smoke thing is what got trapped inside" theory since Season 1.

  4. I actually like the LAX timelines. I think they are an interesting approach to what could be the same story. I can see where you are coming from on how much you liked it, but it just didn't cut it for me. It felt more like a Nikki/Paulo scenario.

Jacob is definitely the bottle - what else would he have been? It was really cool the whole smashing bit; foreshadowing! Or, reference-shadowing? That was my favorite part of the whole show.

    *Possible spoiler* : It's Jin/Sun next week.

  5. Did anyone else pick up the possible significance of Jacob dunking Richard in the water three times? It's like he was baptizing him. (In the name of the Father...the Son...and the Holy Spirit.)
